DR. CHARLES JELINEK: Implants are great. They really change the way we do dentistry today. The days of taking your teeth out, those are a thing of the past. We can restore a missing tooth in a very short period of time. They can be for the very, very young, and the very, very old. There is really no reason why people should have to go around without any teeth, even one missing tooth. The procedure of having an implant put in is absolutely painless, it's no different than having a filling placed in your mouth. The benefits for implants are two-fold. One, obviously aesthetics. We can create a very natural looking tooth, where there used to be an empty space. Secondly, the joy of eating is such a pleasure to some patients who have, for whatever reason, have not been able to eat what they used to eat, and it brings a real joy back to them to be able to eat again. Most of our patients that receive implants are in between 45 and about 70 years old, and for whatever reason they've lost a tooth. And it's essential that if a tooth is lost that it is replaced right away, so that the other teeth don't shift around. Within several weeks someone can have a blank space in their mouth filled with a very natural looking tooth, and it acts and functions just like a natural tooth. You've never get a cavity, it'll never require root canal, it's there for life.
