GREG MCKINNEY: Dr. Chuck Jelinek and the staff at his Washington DC area dental practice understand the importance of patient trust in dentistry. DR. CHARLES JELINEK: Going into someone’s mouth is a very personal thing. You’re invading their private space. And so there has to be an extremely high level of trust there. GREG MCKINNEY: That’s why he has gone to great lengths to do everything he can to give his patients exactly what they’re looking for. DR. CHARLES JELINEK: We want to focus on what it is the patient wants, and everyone’s different, and so for us it’s very important to establish a good relationship with the patient, to get to know the patient. And then once we can figure out what they want, we’ll absolutely give it to them. GREG MCKINNEY: Dr. Jelinek’s office is located right here in Fairfax, Virginia, literally 20 minutes from The White House, and the first thing a lot of patients notice when they first get here is that his office doesn’t have that sterile, clinical feel that many dental offices have. When I come in here it’s actually soothing, I calm down, so that when I do see him I’m in a good frame of mind. GREG MCKINNEY: If you’re wondering what to expect from his staff, Dr. Jelinek puts it this way. DR. CHARLES JELINEK: They’re extremely warm, they’re extremely caring, very understanding. They’re extremely good listeners. Quite frankly, I couldn’t function without them. When you go to a five-star restaurant or a hotel, these are the kind of people you’re going to be seeing. CHARLES JELINEK: The State requires 15 hours of training per year. I probably do 150, just because things are changing and I want to be able to offer my patients, you know, the very best. GREG MCKINNEY: Many of his patients will tell you they have never had a dental experience as painless, or as easy, as his. They are so appreciative of his work, they often send thank you notes to express their gratitude, but that’s not all. DR. CHARLES JELINEK: When Christmas rolls around, we get cakes, brownies, pies, from patients that just come out of the woodwork, and these are people that, you know, have… there’s no reason for them to be bringing these things by, but just their way of showing their appreciation. Our patients are extremely appreciative of what we do, but I’m 10 fold more appreciative of them allowing me to help them in whatever it is that they want. At the end of the day, you know, I like to be able to say, hey, we did a real service to a lot of good people today. I love it. I just love what I do. I can’t think of anything else I’d rather be doing.
